LEGACY SOLUTIONS
If like most people, you dislike paying taxes, and dislike paying legal fees… Now is your chance to minimize or avoid much of this. Because… either you make your own arrangements… or else your Government will make the arrangements for you according to what is best for them, not you and your family. Subsequently, the lawyers charged with handling your affairs will then charge your estate (you) for implementing the plan of your Government. It is an irony that dying without a Will means ultimately that you will pay a lawyer to help the Government to collect even more taxes from you!
Right now, you manage your affairs, both family and financial. On the family-side, you likely do this jointly with your spouse and have almost certainly evolved an array of ‘responsibility spheres’ or ‘co-management’ for managing your family affairs on a day-to-day basis. On the financial-side, you likely manage your investments and assets through an array of professional advisers and representatives, to which you have delegated certain levels of responsibility. In most situations, whether family or financial, each party (spouse, financial adviser, lawyer etc) will usually seek your guidance and subsequent agreement and written instruction before they then attend to the affairs you have delegated to them. Generally speaking, the above can reasonably describe how most of us live our lives, and usually this approach is effective most of the time, and for most issues we face in life…except for one event… our death.
Whether we like it or not, we will leave behind a legacy. The legacy we leave our family will be either a legacy of chaos; or a legacy of order. It is in our individual power to decide which one. In simple terms, the difference between the two is that with one, we have left clear instructions for action and responsibility (order) whereas with the other (chaos) we have not. Let us just suppose that yesterday, and without warning, you died...
